The Scarpe (ndl. Skarpe ) is a river in northern France that runs in the Hauts-de-France region . It rises in the municipality of Tincques , generally drains east to northeast through the Scarpe-Schelde Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional Scarpe-Escaut) and flows 94 kilometers into the Scheldt as a left tributary at Mortagne-du-Nord . On the way, only smaller rivers flow into the Scarpe. On his way he crosses the Pas-de-Calais and Nord departments .

From Arras, around 2/3 of its course, the river was canalized for shipping . At Douai it crosses the Canal de la Sensée , which here is part of the large shipping route Dunkirk-Scheldt .
