Marœuil ( Flemish : Marol ) is a French municipality with 2464 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Arras and the Canton of Arras-1 (until 2015: Canton Dainville ).

Marœuil is on the Scarpe . Marœuil is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mont-Saint-Éloi in the north, Neuville-Saint-Vaast in the northeast, Anzin-Saint-Aubin in the east, Duisans in the southeast, Étrun in the southwest and Haute-Avesnes in the west.

The Route nationale 25 runs through the municipality .

history

Marœuil is first mentioned around 680 as a maraculum . The first church, already then with the patronage of Sainte-Bertille, has been documented since the year 697.
