Neuville-Saint-Vaast is a French commune in Arrondissement Arras in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to Arras-1 (until 2015: Canton Vimy ). It has 1,526 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), who are called Neuvillois .
geography
Neuville-Saint-Vaast is about seven kilometers north-northwest of Arras . Neuville-Saint-Vaast is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Souchez in the north, Givenchy-en-Gohelle in the north and northeast, Vimy in the northeast, Thélus in the east, Roclincourt in the southeast, Écurie and Sainte-Catherine in the south, Anzin-Saint-Aubin and Marœuil in the southwest, Mont-Saint-Éloi in the west and Carency in the northwest.
The A26 autoroute runs through the municipality .
history
Neuville-Saint-Vaast was completely destroyed during the First World War . After the war the place was completely reconstructed.
