Biache-Saint-Vaast is a French municipality with 4083 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Arras and the canton of Brebières (until 2015: canton of Vitry-en-Artois ). The inhabitants are called Biachois .

Biache-Saint-Vaast is located on the canalised Scarpe . Biache-Saint-Vaast is surrounded by the neighboring communities Fresnes-lès-Montauban in the north, Vitry-en-Artois in the east, Sailly-en-Ostrevent in the south-east, Hamblain-les-Prés in the south, Pelves in the south-west, and Plouvain in the west Gavrelle in the northwest.
Biache-Saint-Vaast train station is on the Paris – Lille line .
history
Artifacts from the Moustérien era have been found here from the Stone Age , including two fragments of skulls from Neanderthals .
765 the place is called Bigartium .
In October 1918, the local Saint-Vaast abbey was destroyed. The current Saint-Pierre church was built in its place.
