The Canton of Vitry-en-Artois was 2015 a French canton in the Arrondissement of Arras , in the Pas-de-Calais and the region Nord-Pas-de-Calais ; its main town was Vitry-en-Artois . Martial Stienne ( PCF ) was the last representative in the General Council of the Department from 1979 to 2015 . The canton Vitry-en-Artois was 169.31 km² in size and had 26,863 inhabitants ( as of 1999 ), which corresponds to a population density of around 158 inhabitants per km². It was on average 57 meters above sea level , between 25 meters in Brebières and 113 meters in Monchy-le-Preux .
