Sainte-Catherine is a French municipality with 3511 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Arras and the Canton of Arras-1 .
history
The historical name of the place was Demencourt (recorded as "Dominica curtis" in 752). In the 13th century, the name of the parish of Sainte-Catherine also became a place name. Historically, the place has belonged to the County of Artois since the Middle Ages and shared its eventful history. Since the Peace of the Pyrenees of 1659, the place has belonged permanently to France. With the law of December 22, 1789 on the administrative reorganization of France, the settlement came as the commune of Sainte-Catherine to the newly formed Pas-de-Calais department. During the First World War, the region was the scene of fierce fighting and costly material battles.
