history
The Romans already settled here: at least one “ villa urbana ” stood here in the municipality. The name of the place is derived from "juveniacum", property of Juvenius or Juventus . The place name is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1329, at that time as Givenchy en le Gohelle .
Givenchy-en-Gohelle was completely destroyed during the First World War . The village was rebuilt - the residents preferred to clear away the rubble rather than move.
