Ablain-Saint-Nazaire is a French commune with 1,772 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France (formerly Nord-Pas-de-Calais ). In the community which is military cemetery "Notre-Dame-de-Lorette" to the Fallen of the First World War - including from the Second Battle of Artois in 1915 - rest 20,000 soldiers in individual graves and charnel houses the remains of once more than 20,000 dead. On the Muslim burial ground, 576 graves are oriented towards Mecca . With a size of 13 hectares, it is the largest French military cemetery from the First World War. In the middle of the cemetery is the 52 m high Mémorial de Notre-Dame-de-Lorette . Also on the site is the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette basilica in Romano-Byzantine style, inaugurated in 1925. In 2014 the circular international memorial to the fallen was opened with almost 580,000 engraved names of the fallen.

Another memorial is the former church from the 16th century, which was destroyed in 1915 like the whole place. Unlike the houses of the residents, the church was not rebuilt, but as a ruin is a memorial to the horrors of war.
