The horticultural craftsman is a part of the horticultural profession .

Horticultural professionals carry out all practical work in the broadest sense that is related to the creation and maintenance of gardens and green spaces. This includes laying paths with a wide variety of pavements, setting fences or laying drainage pipes as well as growing useful and ornamental plants.

The training to become a horticultural craftsman is regulated in the Vocational Training Act (§ 66 BBiG), the corresponding state regulations for the promotion of disabled people and in the craft regulations (§ 42 HwO). In general, it comprises a three-year apprenticeship at a vocational training center and at a vocational school. Specializations are possible, for example, in the cultivation of ornamental plants and in gardening and landscaping.
