Fouquières-lès-Lens is located in the historic Gohelle landscape . Its neighboring communities are Harnes in the north, Courrières in the northeast, Montigny-en-Gohelle in the east, Billy-Montigny in the south, Sallaumines and Méricourt in the southwest and Noyelles-sous-Lens in the west.
The A21 autoroute and the former Route nationale 43 (today: D943) run through the municipality .
