Pont-à-Vendin ( dutch turning Brugge ) is a French municipality with 3187 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Lens and the canton of Wingles and is a member of the Communauté d'agglomération de Lens-Liévin .

geography

Pont-à-Vendin is located a few kilometers northeast of Lens on the canalised Deûle . Pont-à-Vendin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Meurchin in the north, Estevelles in the east, Annay in the south and Vendin-le-Vieil in the west.

history

The place was already of strategic importance in the Middle Ages when a bridge was built over the Deûle here. Coal was also mined here later.
