Faetano has 1,177 inhabitants and an area of 7.75 km².

The place is in the east of San Marino on the river Marano , which forms the border with Italy .

The municipality includes the districts (Italian Frazione , San-Marine Curazie ) Cà Chiavello , Calligaria , Corianino and Monte Pulito .

Faetano borders the San Marinese municipalities of Montegiardino , Fiorentino , Borgo Maggiore and Domagnano as well as the Italian municipalities of Coriano , Montescudo (both in the province of Rimini , Emilia-Romagna region ) and Sassofeltrio ( province of Pesaro and Urbino , Marche region ).

The main town lies on a hill interspersed with plaster at 362 meters above sea level . Plaster of paris was once mined to make stucco , a binder that was very common before the invention of cement . The town hall (Casa del Castello) is located in the Piazza del Massaro .

The name probably originated from the old Castrum Faitani or Fegetani , probably derived from the word faggio (= beech). The municipality joined the troops of San Marino in the war against the Malatesta of Rimini in 1463 and, together with Fiorentino , Serravalle and Montegiardino, is one of the last territorial expansions of the republic. The fortress that existed at the time was destroyed and the town's church is located in its place. The historical fortress was raised on a rock, which has been removed today.

Chiesa di San Paolo apostolo 1898, begun in 1917, consecrated, and the church on the main square Piazza del Massaro that the Paul of Tarsus is dedicated. The designs come from the Milanese Capuchin Angelo da Cassano, the construction was carried out by Luigi Guidi from San Marino.

In 1968, in the north-east of the municipality, Lago di Faetano was created in the Marano valley , an artificial lake with facilities for sport fishing.
