The Province of Rimini ( Italian Provincia di Rimini ) is an Italian province in the Emilia-Romagna region . The capital is Rimini . The province has 339,796 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in 25 municipalities on an area of approx. 864 km².
geography
The province borders in the south on the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche and on the Republic of San Marino , in the east on the Adriatic Sea , in the north and west on the province Forlì-Cesena and in the southwest on the province of Arezzo in Tuscany . There are no significant lakes in the area. The coast is low and offers a spacious beach.
history
The province of Rimini was founded in 1992 from areas of the former province of Forlì, which has been called Forlì-Cesena since then . After a referendum held in 2006, seven municipalities from the province of Pesaro and Urbino were added in 2009 , so that the province now also extends into the mountainous hinterland west of San Marino .

traffic
The motorway ( Autostrada A14 ) runs along the coast. The train stations of Santarcangelo di Romagna , Rimini, Riccione and Misano Adriatico are on the important railway line Bologna – Ancona of the Italian State Railways . In Rimini, the FER operated railway line Ferrara-Rimini branches off.
