Weitenegg is a village and a cadastral municipality in the Lower Austrian market town of Leiben in the Melk district . The village is located on the left bank of the Danube at the mouth of the Weitenbach . The Weitental Straße , which leads to Pöggstall , also begins in Weitenegg .
Weitenegg was originally an independent municipality and in 1972 was forcibly incorporated into the municipality of Leiben.
Settlement development
At the turn of the year 1979/1980 there were a total of 56 building areas with 15,685 m² and 28 gardens on 16,137 m² in the cadastral community of Weitenegg , in 1989/1990 there were 56 building areas. In 1999/2000 the number of building areas had grown to 102 and in 2009/2010 there were 57 buildings on 101 building areas.
Buildings
The oldest parts of the Weitenegg castle ruins , a high mountain ridge running in an east-west direction, date from the 12th century and were expanded in the 17th century. The eastern keep was almost completely demolished in 1870 and used as building material for the ultramarine factory below.
Below the castle ruins is the Weitenegg ultramarine factory , which was built in the second quarter of the 19th century and exported its products to the Far East.
Land use
The cadastral community is characterized by agriculture and forestry. 51 hectares were used for agriculture at the turn of the year 1979/1980 and 58 hectares were forest areas. In 1999/2000 agriculture was carried out on 62 hectares and 35 hectares were designated as areas used for forestry. At the end of 2018, 56 hectares were used as agricultural land and forestry was carried out on 35 hectares. The average soil climate of Weitenegg is 34.3 (as of 2010).
