The portal for maps & geographic information in Lower Austria , also known under the acronym NÖGIS , is the geodata infrastructure of the state of Lower Austria . The geographic data portfolio includes data (e.g. lines of roads, areas of protected areas) that are owned by the state of Lower Austria. These are divided into freely accessible and commercially available data. In addition to interactive tools for end users, NÖGIS also offers an INSPIRE ( Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community ) service for communication between machines.

Freely accessible data

With the “Lower Austrian Atlas” offer, NÖGIS offers a free web application with which a large part of Lower Austrian geodata can be queried and visualized. Together with the other countries of Austria, NÖGIS is a partner in the geodata network of the Austrian states geoland.at and, like all other countries, relies on the WebGIS software developed by Energie Steiermark for the "Lower Austria Atlas" . Examples of the data offered are aerial photos, terrain heights, content from environmental protection, water information such as flood discharge areas and the like. v. a. m. In order to be able to access the mentioned data, you have to click on the tab "Map Center: All Maps" at the bottom left.

In addition to the offer for end users, NÖGIS also offers machine-readable information. In doing so, NÖGIS adheres to the standards of the INSPIRE initiative of the European Union ( Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community ), which aims to implement a Europe-wide, standardized spatial data infrastructure .

Geoshop

Apart from the freely accessible offers of the INSPIRE Initiative and the interactive Lower Austria Atlas, NÖGIS also offers data that can be bought (also from other data providers) in their Geoshop. In principle, the data that can be acquired here are made available to all interested parties, but there are a few differences in the terms and conditions depending on the business relationship between the interested party and NÖGIS. A distinction is made between contractors from the state of Lower Austria (“Contractors are companies or institutions that perform tasks for the state of Lower Austria on the basis of a work contract or a legal order”), Lower Austria municipalities and other interested parties. The most important difference is that municipalities have special agreements for color photos and other interested parties do not have the opportunity to access data from other data owners directly via the Geoshop, but have to purchase them directly from the data owners themselves.
