The VoGIS (Vorarlberg Geographical Information System) is the GIS system of the state of Vorarlberg . It procures, creates, maintains and publishes geographic data for the Vorarlberg state administration and the individual citizen. Organizationally, VoGIS is integrated into the State Office for Surveying and Geoinformation (State Surveying Office Vorarlberg).

tasks

Data acquisition

The VoGIS data comes from different sources. The majority of the data sets are created by the VoGIS employees themselves, such as road and water networks, digital zoning plans , hazard zone plans , protected areas or even the biotope inventory . In the course of direct orders, the following data sets are generated, partly with partners: Current and historical orthophotos , elevation models, land use maps , forest masks, etc. The Federal Office for Metrology and Surveying (BEV) and other partners are among other things the digital cadastre (DKM) and the topographic maps (ÖK).

Operation of geographic information services

VoGIS operates several geographic information services itself and, together with the other countries of Austria, is a partner in the geodata network of the Austrian states geoland

  • Vorarlberg Atlas is an open web GIS service with geographic base and specialist data for everyone. Among other things, the following topics are published here: Orthophotos, geocoded addresses and streets, land registers, elevation models, administrative boundaries, etc. Parallel to the publication of the data in the Vorarlberg Atlas, these are also offered as open WMS services and in some cases also for direct download.
  • Vorarlberg Atlas Pro is an intranet web service for a closed user group in which the Vorarlberg regional administration and the Vorarlberg municipalities are provided with additional specialist services in addition to the services of the Vorarlberg Atlas.
  • Geoland.at is the geodata portal of the Austrian states
  • Graph integration platform GIP is an Austria-wide integration solution for transport networks. In the GIP project, a routable overall graph of all traffic routes is created and maintained. The data form e.g. B. one of the bases of the traffic information Austria (VAO), the Austrian basic map basemap.at or the official commuter calculator.

Operation of the technical VoGIS infrastructure

One of the tasks of VoGIS is the operation and maintenance of the technical GIS infrastructure. In addition to the necessary hardware (server, clients, plotter, scanner, etc.), this also includes an extensive license pool of GIS software. Currently, around 35 TB of various data are held on the VoGIS servers.

The system is looked after by the State Office for Surveying and Geoinformation , a subordinate department of the Spatial Planning and Building Law Department at the Vorarlberg State Government.

Data trading

The VoGIS also handles all geodata transfers from the Vorarlberg regional government. This includes all geodata owned by the State of Vorarlberg (including high-resolution orthophotos, high-precision elevation models from laser scan flights, base maps, water and transport networks, zoning plans, etc.). Since January 1, 2016, these are mainly available under a CC-BY license as OGD and are provided on a service and cloud-based basis.
