Biotope inventory Vorarlberg

 BIO | TOP  The Vorarlberg biotope inventory is a directory of particularly protected biotopes in the state of Vorarlberg .

Basics and history

Between 1984 and 1989, under the aegis of the Vorarlberg Landscape Conservation Fund, inventories of particularly worthy of protection biotopes were made, supervised by Mario F. Broggi and Georg Grabherr . The work-up was completed by 1991. It is considered a “special pioneering achievement” in the field, Vorarlberg was the first federal state to have a complete inventory.

This inventory was updated from 2005 to 2008 on behalf of the Vorarlberg state government by the AVL – Arge Vegetationsökologie und Landschaftsplanung , Vienna (biotope mapping Vorarlberg 2005–2008). Both the inventory itself and the underlying biotope type catalog were revised and supplemented. The new additions include:

  • Update of the natural value of the designated biotopes
  • sharp image
  • professional evaluation of the protection worthiness

As part of this, the inventory was also integrated into the state geographic information system VOGIS and an information base was created for the individual communities. The new edition was presented in April 2010 by Environment Councilor Erich Schwärzler at the base of the nature watch group in Wolfurt .

Today the inventory includes all biotopes - with the exception of those of the intensive grassland, the fields and the settlement area, which are relevant according to modern nature and landscape protection. The updated version contains 1,385 individual biotopes with an area of ​​27,130 hectares, i.e. around 10% of the country's area, and includes more than 7,000 individual data sets and 62,500 plant finds.

The inventory thus forms the basis for nature monitoring in Vorarlberg as well as the designation of protected areas , both national and, for example, those of the European Natura 2000 network.

Excursions

Since 2011, the state of Vorarlberg has offered up to 43 excursions a year. These excursions are carried out by experts and take place in different biotopes.
