Erich Schwärzler (born March 20, 1953 in Lingenau ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) from Vorarlberg . Schwärzler was a regional councilor in the Vorarlberg state government from 1993 to 2018 . From 1988 to 1993 he was also a member of the Austrian National Council .

education

Schwärzler first attended the agricultural college, where he also passed the skilled worker examination. In 1976 he then moved to the Higher Federal College for Agriculture in Raumberg , where he graduated in 1980 with the Matura . He then attended the federal seminar for agricultural education from 1980 to 1981 and finally passed the teaching examination for agricultural specialist training in 1983 . He then became an employee of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Agriculture .

Political career

From 1985 to 1995 Schwärzler served as Vice Mayor of Lingenau for ten years. During the period from 1988 to 1993 he was also a member of the Austrian National Council for the ÖVP. Since 1985 he has been a board member of the Bregenzerwald regional planning association and since 1993 a member of the Vorarlberg regional government as regional councilor for agriculture, forestry, water management, energy and security. In addition, he was a community representative in Lingenau until he left in 2015. On April 3, 2018, he announced his resignation from all political positions after 25 years as a member of the government due to an illness in his family. His successor as state councilor, Christian Gantner , was elected in the state parliament session on April 11, 2018. After leaving politics, Erich Schwärzler has been working as a “ UN Ombudsman” together with Gottfried Feurstein since September 2018 .

Private life

Schwärzler works as a farmer and agricultural consultant and has an engineering degree for agricultural specialist work. He is married, has three daughters and a son and lives in Lingenau.
