Lingenau is a municipality in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg with 1535 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).

geography

Lingenau is located in the westernmost federal state of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the Bregenz district southeast of Lake Constance at an altitude of 685 meters. 30.8% of the area is forested. There are no other cadastral communities in Lingenau. The place is a member of the German-Austrian joint project Naturpark Nagelfluhkette .

Neighboring communities

The municipality of Lingenau borders on four other Vorarlberg municipalities. These municipalities, which are also located in the Bregenz district, are clockwise, starting in the north, Langenegg , Hittisau , Egg and Alberschwende .

history

"Lindigenowe" was first mentioned in 1227. It is the oldest settlement in the Vorderwald and was part of the Mehrerau monastery for a long time .

In Lingenau, the Bad Hohl existed for centuries until the Second World War , where an iron spring (Maxriese) was used.

The Habsburgs ruled the places in Vorarlberg alternately from Tyrol and Upper Austria (Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814 the place belonged to Bavaria, then again to Austria. For Austrian province of Vorarlberg Lingenau heard since its founding. 1861

The place was part of the French occupation zone in Austria from 1945 to 1955.

Population development


At the end of 2002 the proportion of foreigners was 7.0 percent. In the two decades from 1991 to 2011 the number of inhabitants remained almost constant, as the birth balance was positive to the same extent as the migration balance was negative.

The community council of Lingenau consists of 15 members. In the 2015 municipal council elections in Lingenau, the Lingenau citizens' list was a single list.

Annette Sohler was elected mayor by the municipal council on April 5, 2010. When she took office, she was the youngest mayor of Vorarlberg and one of only two women at the head of a municipality in the state.

  • The parish church of St. John the Baptist with choir, nave and north tower in neo-Romanesque style from the 19th century received a renovation in 2010 with the altar in the middle of the nave. The windows designed by the Schruns artist Konrad Honold in 1964 have been restored. The symbols of the four evangelists are shown in the rose window above the gallery.
  • The chapel of St. Anna auf dem Felde from 1722 shows a pure baroque style . The chapel, unique due to its unique basic shape, is located outside the village on the road to Müselbach . It was built in place of an earlier chapel by the Lingenau builder Konrad Nussbaumer together with the carpenter Konrad Bilgeri.
The chapel was built from spring tufa and has colored church windows with depictions of various saints and blessed. In 1894 the interior was restored with paintings by Jakob Bertle (1837–1911).
The ceiling fresco "Vorarlbergia Sankta" (representation of the foundation of the diocese of Feldkirch; 1968) and the two altarpieces come from the Schruns artist Konrad Honold (1918–2007). The St. Anna Chapel is a listed building.

Natural monuments

Quelltuffnase (travertine)

There is a Quelltuff nature trail. A spring stream separates over 40 meters of massive spring tuff (limestone sinter). This sight was created in the late Ice Age.

Economy and Infrastructure

In 2015 there were 786 employees in Lingenau and as of December 31, 2017 there were 56 apprentices in the village. In the 2016/17 tourism year, 45,938 overnight stays were counted, 17,287 in winter and 28,651 in summer.

The proportion of agricultural land in the total area is 57%.

public safety

As a public safety facility, the municipality of Lingenau maintains a volunteer fire brigade , which is equipped and financially supported by the municipality. The fire brigade consists of two trains and is one of the 27 base fire brigades for hydraulic rescue equipment in Vorarlberg. In 2001, under commander HBM Georg Winder, a youth fire brigade was founded within the Lingenau fire brigade.

Lingenau is also looked after by the Egg Rescue Department of the Austrian Red Cross as part of rescue operations and patient transports. The municipality of Lingenau belongs to the district of the Hittisau police station .

education

In the kindergarten in Lingenau, 88.1% of the 3-6 year olds are cared for. There is also an elementary school, a middle school and a music middle school with a total of 313 students (as of the 2016/17 school year).
