geography

The community is located in the Leiblachtal region and borders in the east and northeast on the German West Allgäu ( district of Lindau ). The neighboring village of Scheidegg is only a few kilometers away. Looking to the west, from the right point, you can see the German city of Lindau and Lake Constance .

history

Möggers was first mentioned in a document in 1591 . The document speaks of the “Hof zem oggers of the Lords of Weiler ”. Weiler could mean place here, but in all probability means the place Weiler im Allgäu .

Population development

In the ten years from 1981 to 1991, both the birth balance and the migration balance were very positive. This led to the skyrocketing population. In the years that followed, many residents emigrated, but the birth rate remained positive.

politics

The municipal council consists of 12 members, all of whom belong to the Möggers municipal council list (the only list that stood for election in the 2015 municipal council elections).

Georg Bantel has been the mayor since 1980 and is the longest-serving mayor of Vorarlberg (as of February 2020). At the time of the inauguration he was the youngest mayor of Austria.

coat of arms

The municipal coat of arms shows "On a blue shield the image of St. Ulrich with a golden cloak, red miter and golden bishop's staff in the right hand and a red Bible with a golden fish on the left hand". It was created in 1969 based on a design by the Schruns artist and heraldist Konrad Honold .
