history

Krumbach was first mentioned in a document on September 17, 1249 . On this day, Pope Innocent IV issued a document to the Benedictine monastery Mehrerau in Lyon , in which Krumbach was placed under the special protection of the Pope among the 65 named places. The Habsburgs ruled the places in Vorarlberg from 1278 alternately from Tyrol and Upper Austria (Freiburg im Breisgau). In 1490 a chapel was consecrated in honor of St. Martin; Krumbach has been an independent parish since 1648 . From 1805 to 1814 the place belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria as a result of the Pressburg Peace in 1805 , then again to Austria. In 1807 the so-called "Krumbach Women's Uprising" took place, against which Karl Ernst von Gravenreuth , Bavarian Commissioner General of the Swabian Province, first took great harshness, but then enforced the rebels' pardon.

For Austrian province of Vorarlberg Krumbach heard since its founding in 1861. The place was 1945-1955 part of the French occupation zone in Austria.

For the history of the spa see Rossbad . The second therapeutic bath, the Kressbad, was an obese sulfur bath in the Biedermeier period . The Badwirt Johann Fink published a bath booklet in 1838: Use and usage of the Kreßbad zu Krumbach .

The Bregenzerwald embroiderers

Until the middle of the 18th century, the village chronicle relocated the beginnings of embroidery to the Bregenzerwald. Before 1800 chain embroidery found its way into the municipality of Krumbach and soon became an important source of income: the monthly earnings of a capable embroiderer were about the value of a cow .

At first, the “employment for the crooked and lame” turned into a small local industry and no house was missing the embroidery machine , which was also described many times in poetry. The first orders came from the Swiss Rhine Valley, but the fame of the "Wälderspitz" quickly spread in the countries of the monarchy and hotels in Vienna, Budapest and Trieste ordered from the Bregenzerwalders.

The heyday of embroidery fell in the years after the First World War, in the Roaring Twenties, when buyers from overseas brought huge orders with them, which secured the work and income of the mostly large families for months .

The socially reform-minded poet Franz Michael Felder (1839–1869) describes the work of the embroiderers in his “Wälderspitz”.

Population development

The proportion of foreigners at the end of 2002 was 9.1 percent. The population growth in the last few decades is based on a positive birth balance and positive migration balance . Only between 1991 and 2001 was emigration stronger than immigration, but this was offset by the high birth rate.

The municipal council of Krumbach consists of 12 members, all of whom belong to the Krumbach citizens' list after the 2015 municipal council election . Arnold Hirschbühl was mayor until May 14, 2018, before resigning for personal reasons. At the municipal council meeting on May 18, Egmont Schwärzler was elected mayor of Krumbach as his successor.

The shelters are not based on the conventional appearance, but use regional materials such as wood or shingles or take into account local features such as a street crossing, the view or neighboring buildings.
