geography
course
The Bolgenach rises less than one kilometer south of the western summit of the Schafkopf des Beslers and almost four kilometers southwest of the Riedberger Horn in the mountains of the Bavarian district of Oberallgäu . The river, which initially moved westwards, runs in a large curve to the northwest to Balderschwang and crosses the border to Vorarlberg in the subsequent Balderschwang valley on the west side after a short stretch as a border river . Now the Bolgenach flows west to the Bolgenach reservoir north of Hittisau . It leaves this northwards and finally flows 2 kilometers south of Sulzberg from the left into the Weißach.
The valley is known for the old wooden bridges. The comma bridge from 1720 is also the oldest wooden bridge in Vorarlberg, which was mentioned in a document as early as 1514. Another wooden bridge is the Gießen Bridge from 1792.
