history
The origin of the name "Langen" can probably be traced back to one of the first settlers in the area. That this was called "Lang" or "Lange" is also likely because numerous other parcel names in the area were created in a similar way. Originally Langen only referred to today's center of the municipality, the village, while the remaining parts of today's municipality of Langen were collectively referred to as Hinterrickenbachtobel or Hintertobel .
In 1422 a Dominican convent was founded on Hirschberg , which burned down in 1460 as a result of a lightning strike and was then moved to Kennelbach . Around the same time, there was also a small chapel in the Langen settlement, which at that time still belonged to the mother parish of Bregenz. The church was not separated from the Bregenz parish until 1565. Ten years later, in 1575, the parish was enlarged by integrating the parish west of the Weißenhuberbach.
The community found a substantial connection to the areas outside of the Vorderen Bregenz Forest in 1765/66, when a road connection was established from Weiler in Allgäu via Langen and the Bregenzer Fluh to Bregenz. This road was part of the salt road from Solbad Hall into the Rhine Valley . A traffic connection for wagons and later motor vehicles was only possible from 1903, when the first passable road from Bregenz via Kennelbach-Kustersberg and the Wirtatobel to Langen existed. A year earlier , the community was connected to the railway network with the Bregenzerwaldbahn , which ran in the river bed of the Bregenzer Ache between Bezau and Bregenz and had a Langen-Buch stop . Although the popularly known “Wälderbähnle” had to stop operating in 1980, the state road to Langen was considerably expanded and renewed in 1980/81 to compensate for this.
