geography

Riefensberg is located in the westernmost state of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the Bregenz district south of Lake Constance at an altitude of 781 meters. 35.8% of the area is forested, 12.3% of the area of ​​the Alps. There are no other cadastral communities in Riefensberg. The place is a member of the German-Austrian community project Naturpark Nagelfluhkette .

history

The Habsburgs ruled the places in Vorarlberg alternately from Tyrol and Upper Austria (Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814 the place belonged to Bavaria, then again to Austria. "Juppen Manufactory"

The “Juppe” - this is how the Bregenzerwald women's costume is called - often accompanies those who wear it for a lifetime.

The individual parts of the elaborate garment are made individually by hand to this day. The Juppe workshop in Riefensberg, a unique manufacture for the preservation and care of the Juppe , offers an insight into the manufacture and history of the Juppe.

When going to church on Sundays and public holidays and at celebrations such as weddings, the women proudly wear their custom-made costume or costume that has been inherited for generations.
