The Vorarlberg state government is the highest administrative body in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . As primus inter pares, it is chaired by the governor ; Markus Wallner currently holds this office, who is in charge of the Wallner III provincial government .

“The state government is responsible for the administration of the state.” Is enshrined in Article 41 paragraph 1 of the Vorarlberg state constitution . In contrast to the federal ministers, this task is performed by the entire state government as a collegial body. The governor (not the collegiate body) is also responsible for the implementation of federal laws within the framework of indirect federal administration.

choice

The state government is elected by the Vorarlberg state parliament in three ballots in accordance with Article 41 paragraph 3 of the Vorarlberg state constitution. The governor and governor are appointed in the first two, and finally the remaining provincial councils in the third . For a long time Vorarlberg was the only federal state whose state government was not appointed according to the proportional system ; after Tyrol and Salzburg , however, there are now tendencies to abolish proportional representation in other countries as well.

Members

The Vorarlberg state government has seven members, and chaired by the provincial governor, his deputy, the State Governor (currently state governor Barbara Schöbi Finch ).

The state constitution limits the number of state councils to five. There are also the governor and governor with their own areas of responsibility.

Although the ÖVP had an absolute majority in the state parliament since 1945 (with an interruption from 1999 to 2004), until 2009 only six members of the state government were each from the ÖVP and one from a smaller party (until 1974 SPÖ , then FPÖ ). From 1999 to 2004 the ÖVP had to enter into a coalition, the coalition partner FPÖ provided the state governor in this government. From 2009 to 2014 the ÖVP ruled alone.

Since 2014 Vorarlberg has been ruled by a black-green coalition made up of the Vorarlberg People's Party and the Vorarlberg Greens .
