Barbara Schöbi-Fink (born January 12, 1961 in Feldkirch ; born Barbara Fink ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) as well as a former journalist and presenter . Schöbi-Fink has been Vorarlberg's governor since November 6, 2019 , i.e. a member of the Vorarlberg state government as the deputy governor . Since January 31, 2018, she had already been a member of the state government as regional councilor and before that she was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 2014 to 2018 .

Barbara Schöbi-Fink was born on January 12, 1961 as the daughter of Hans and Hilde Fink in Feldkirch . She attended elementary school and secondary school in Feldkirch and graduated from HLW Sacré Coeur Riedenburg in Bregenz from 1975 to 1980 , where she graduated in 1980 . She then studied theology and German language and literature for teaching at the universities of Innsbruck and Graz . 1986 took place graduation at the University of Innsbruck, 1991 doctorate Barbara Schöbi Finch also in Innsbruck in German to the doctor philosophiæ (Dr. phil.). From 1991 onwards she trained as a journalist at the ORF regional studio in Vorarlberg.

Professionally, Schöbi-Fink worked directly after her studies from 1986 to 1989 as a teacher at the college for business professions in Rankweil . From 1991 to 1999 she worked as an employee of the current service at ORF Vorarlberg . Among other things, she moderated Vorarlberg today .

Political career

From 2000, Barbara Schöbi-Fink worked full-time in Feldkirch city politics. Initially she was City Councilor for Social Affairs and Housing from 2000 and from 2010 took over the departments of culture, education, music school, integration, archive, library and libraries. Following the municipal council elections in 2015 , Barbara Schöbi-Fink was elected Vice Mayor on April 9, 2015 by the city council of her hometown Feldkirch. As such, she was responsible for the departments of kindergartens and childcare, schools, education and music schools. Schöbi-Fink resigned her functions in Feldkirch city politics when she joined the state government in 2018.

In the state elections in Vorarlberg in 2014 , Barbara Schöbi-Fink ran for the Vorarlberg People's Party in the Feldkirch electoral district . After the election, on November 5, 2014, she was sworn in as a candidate for governor Markus Wallner as a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament. There she took over the function of area spokeswoman for the topics of education and kindergarten in the ÖVP state parliament club in the 30th legislative period of the state parliament .

On January 10, 2018, the ÖVP Vorarlberg announced that Barbara Schöbi-Fink was to succeed Bernadette Mennel as the designated successor to Bernadette Mennel in the state parliament session on January 31 as the state councilor for education in the Vorarlberg state government . On January 31, 2018, she therefore took on the role of regional councilor for legislation, education, schools, kindergartens, child day care, science and further education as well as sport in the Wallner II regional government . After the state elections in Vorarlberg in 2019 , Barbara Schöbi-Fink was nominated as the new state governor , and thus the first woman to hold the office of deputy governor in Vorarlberg. In the constituent session of the 31st legislative period , she was elected as state governor by the Vorarlberg state parliament .

Private life

Schöbi-Fink is married and has three children. She lives with her family in Feldkirch.
