Political career

Bishop's political career can be viewed as a classic career changer. Bischof, who had been a member of the ÖVP and the ÖAAB since 1992 , was appointed to the Vorarlberg state government for the first time in 1993 as the state councilor for social affairs, health, hospitals and culture. In 1997, after four years, he was elected regional governor , i.e. deputy to the governor of Vorarlberg. After he was again state councilor from 1999 to 2004, after the ÖVP regained an absolute majority in the state parliament in the state elections in September of the same year, he was reappointed state governor, which he remained until 2006.

In September 2006, Hans-Peter Bischof suffered severe cerebral hemorrhage , which ultimately led him to resign from his political offices on December 13, 2006. His successor as governor was the later governor Markus Wallner .
