The Academic Association Raeto-Bavaria is a Catholic student association of the Austrian Cartel Association from Innsbruck . The hitting of lengths is strictly rejected. The AV Raeto-Bavaria sees itself as a community of active Catholics who feel obliged to the church, the fatherland and science and who cultivate lifelong friendship with one another in a special way .

founding

At a boys' convention of the KÖHV Leopoldina Innsbruck on June 19, 1908, the establishment of a third ICV association was decided and three active boys and one inactive were commissioned to prepare for the establishment. The first preparatory convention took place on July 1, 1908. The name “Raeto-Bavaria” and the motto “Much enemy - Much honor” were chosen. Furthermore, the boy colors “bright red-white-light blue”, the fox colors “white-light blue” and crimson hats with a white protrusion were determined as headgear.

The name was chosen after the oldest inhabitants of the country: Raetians and Bavarians . The motto comes from the Landsknechtführer Georg von Frundsberg from Schwaz . The boy colors were taken from the state colors of Tyrol , Vorarlberg and Bavaria .

The AV Raeto-Bavaria has number 13 in the order of the Austrian Cartel connections and had number 64 before the split between CV and ÖCV.

Participation in the Academic Kulturkampf

A sensational incident occurred in the winter semester of 1912/13: Max Ghezze , an active lad of Raeto-Bavaria, died as a result of a brawl with members of the Corps Gothia . The funeral took place in Innsbruck on November 9, 1912 , and around 10,000 people attended or flanked the streets. The rector and the deans of the theological and medical faculties as well as high-ranking personalities from the country and the city attended the funeral. The death of Max Ghezze is considered to be one of the highlights of the academic culture war between strong and denominational ties in Austria before the First World War . There were repeated clashes, but fatal incidents were very rare.
