Karl Stoss (born November 26, 1956 in Dornbirn ) is an Austrian manager. From 2007 to 2017 he was General Director of Casinos Austria AG .

Life

Stoss comes from Vorarlberg and was a successful swimmer and water polo player in his youth .

After graduating from the higher federal teaching and research institute for the textile industry in Dornbirn in 1977, he studied business administration at the University of Innsbruck . After graduation as Mag. Rer. soc. oec. he worked as a contract assistant at the Institute for Industry and Commerce there and from 1984 to 1986 at the Vorarlberger Landesversicherung in Bregenz. In 1986 he was awarded a Dr. rer. soc. oec. PhD. During his student days he became a member of the Catholic student association AV Raeto-Bavaria Innsbruck in the ÖCV .

From 1986 to 1996 he was a partner and division manager at the MZSG Management Zentrum St. Gallen (now Malik Management Zentrum St. Gallen AG) and a lecturer at the University of Innsbruck. In 1997 he became Deputy Chairman of the Management Board and Deputy General Director of Österreichische Postsparkasse AG , before moving to the Management Board of Raiffeisen Zentralbank AG in 2001 . In 2005 he became General Director of Generali Versicherung AG and Generali Holding Vienna AG. Since May 25, 2007, he has succeeded Leo Wallner as General Manager of Casinos Austria AG.

Stoss, in his role as a member of the International Olympic Committee, at an award ceremony at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games .

On October 22nd, 2009, Stoss was elected President of the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC), succeeding Leo Wallner in this function. In 2016 he became the tenth Austrian member of the International Olympic Committee .

On November 28, 2016, Stoss received the Grand Decoration of Honor in Gold for services to the Republic of Austria . The award recognizes his dedicated work for the Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries Group as well as for the Austrian Olympic Comité. Stoss has also been President of the Austro-Liechtenstein Society for ten years. For his commitment to maintaining and promoting Austrian-Liechtenstein relations, SD Hereditary Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein presented him with the Commander's Cross with the star of the Princely Liechtenstein Order of Merit on January 18, 2017 .

On March 1, 2017, he was re-elected as its president for another four years at the ordinary general assembly of the "ÖOC" in "Studio 44" in Vienna. He was the only candidate. (Source: Sport: ORF.at from March 1, 2017).

On July 1, 2017, Alexander Labak succeeded him as General Director of Casinos Austria AG and Chairman of the Board of Austrian Lotteries .

Private

Stoss is married and has three children. Extreme mountaineering is one of his hobbies .
