Kurt Heller (born January 14, 1919 in Vienna ; † August 20, 1990 in Hohenruppersdorf ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1958 to 1979 Heller was the official city councilor in Vienna and then a member of the Federal Council until 1987 .

education and profession

After primary and secondary school, Heller attended a secondary school and then learned to be an electrical engineer. Heller then worked as a technical employee in the design office of a large Viennese industrial company until October 1945, where he had been drafted into the German Wehrmacht between 1939 and 1944 . In October 1945, Heller entered the service of the City of Vienna and worked in a leading position in housing until 1951. Then Leopold Thaller got himinto his office of the executive city council for construction, where Heller worked as a secretary. Thaller entrusted Heller with the area of ​​the Vienna City Building Office. In addition, Heller was a permanent employee of the Österreichische Gemeinde-Zeitung, member of the board of the Institute for Spatial Planning, managing director of the non-profit building, housing and settlement company for community employees and chairman of the non-profit building cooperative “Volksbau”. He also commented on social urban and housing construction in numerous publications.

On June 20, 1956, Heller changed to the Austrian Association of Cities as secretary and was promoted to Secretary General on November 30, 1957. He held this position until 1962.

politics

Heller was deputy district party chairman of the SPÖ Leopoldstadt and between December 11, 1959 and November 13, 1978 was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council. After Leopold Thaller's resignation from the state government and city senate Jonas II as the executive city councilor, Heller took over his construction department on September 19, 1958. He was a member of the city senates and state governments Jonas III , Jonas IV , Marek I as a city councilor for construction matters. In the city senates Marek II , Slavik and Gratz I , Heller headed the civil engineering department, in the city senate Gratz II he took over the office of the city councilor for human resources and general administration, before taking over the newly created human resources and sports department on September 28, 1976. With the end of the government period on November 13, 1978, Heller resigned from office as an executive city councilor. He moved to the Federal Council on February 14, 1979 , to which he was a member until January 28, 1987.

In addition, Heller was President of the Working Group for Sport and Physical Culture in Austria (ASKÖ) from 1966 to 1989, held the function of President of the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) from 1973 to 1990 and was President of the Association of the European National Olympic from 1987 to 1989 Comités and Vice-President of the World Organization.

Heller was buried in the Ottakringer Friedhof (group 5, row M, no. 22). The residential complex in Vienna 2nd, Engerthstrasse 249-253, was named Kurt-Heller-Hof.
