Hohenruppersdorf is located in the hill country of the eastern Weinviertel in Lower Austria, about three kilometers east of Bad Pirawarth and Gaweinstal . The area of ​​the market town covers 21.42 km², 30.1% of the area is forested.

Hohenruppersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1170. A market is documented for the first time in 1324. Hohenruppersdorf was raised to a parish in 1347 and was initially incorporated into the Mauerbach Charterhouse . The place was originally surrounded by a wall and served as a place of refuge in the 14th, 17th and 18th centuries.

  • Catholic parish church Hohenruppersdorf hl. Cross: The baroque parish church surrounded by a cemetery was built between 1788 and 1790. The core of the church tower is medieval.
  • To the north of the church, the former ossuary donated in 1508 has been preserved as a crypt.
  • The town hall of Hohenruppersdorf is also baroque, but was later heavily redesigned.
  • A Trinity column from 1713 stands on the main square.

Weinviertel saffron

In 2001 there were 34 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry holdings according to the 1999 survey 107. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment in the place of residence was 434. In 2001 the activity rate was 47.64%.

  • For the first time in 70 years, as it used to be a tradition in the Weinviertel, saffron has been grown commercially in Hohenruppersdorf since 2013 .
