With 110 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020), Großhofen is the smallest municipality in Lower Austria in terms of population . It is located in Marchfeld ( Gänserndorf district ) in the immediate vicinity of Markgrafneusiedl . It is laid out as an anger village, in the middle of which there is a small chapel.

Großhofen is located in the Weinviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the municipality covers 6.18 square kilometers. 0.05 percent of the area is forested.

Großhofen was first mentioned in a document in 1316. From 1938 to 1945 Großhofen was part of the newly created 22nd district Groß-Enzersdorf of Groß-Wien .

According to the results of the 2001 census , there were 92 inhabitants. In 1991 the community had 71 inhabitants, in 1981 81 and in 1971 98 inhabitants.
