history
According to a forged document from 1074, Margrave Ernst is said to have given Weikendorf to Melk Abbey with the consent of his wife Swanhild († 1062). This Wikkendorf am Gänsbach (Weidenbach) was then a court of a nobleman, whose cultivated land was worked with servants and maidservants. Directly north of it, Melk built the Church of St. Koloman, named in 1115. Perhaps the Zeil am Bach already existed at that time with 18 farmers' fiefs , each of which was followed by a farm field of approx. 10 yokes. In the late 12th century, the Mühlbach was derived from the Gänsbach and the place was initially expanded to include 15 farmers' fiefs in the north, creating an anger village. This line was then extended to the west. In the Melker Urbar 1289–1294 there are 38 Melker farmers' fiefs. The monastery had given many of them to the minor nobility and the first changes were already under way. Meat shops already existed in town. In 1411 Weikendorf became a market town. In 1462, the emperor allowed Melk Abbey to build a castellum in the monastic office - so Weikendorf Castle was probably built on the site of the former Althof. In the preparation book 1590 53 houses are registered, they correspond to the half- houses listed in the Franziszeischen cadastre 1821. After a severe fire in 1683, the parish center was given a baroque design. Now the number of houses grew rapidly to 94 houses by 1795. The rulership of Melk existed until 1848.
In 1700 Jakob Prandtauer built the church and rectory of Weikendorf.
In 2019, the community hit the headlines across Austria after a Palestinian family of 10 was refused permission to settle in the Dörfles district, because they met the requirements of the land transfer law , namely that the purchaser of a property had to have a main residence in Austria for at least ten years , not fulfilled. In a letter, the mayor also referred to the different cultures of the Islamic and the Western world. At the end of 2019, the state administrative court ruled the family. At the end of June 2020, a feature from Ö1 revealed that the family had bought the house and rented it to another family for three years.
