Franz Mair (composer)

Franz Mair (born March 15, 1821 in Weikendorf ; † November 30, 1893 in Vienna ) was choirmaster, composer and founder of the Vienna Schubert League .

Life

Franz Mair, son of a teacher, graduated from secondary school and the teacher training institute in Vienna. He was choirmaster of the Vienna Men's Choir Association , after falling out with the choir, he separated from him and in 1863 founded the “ Wiener Schubertbund ”.

Franz Mair was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery, his honorary grave is in field group 0, no.17 .
