history
Jedenspeigen was first mentioned in a document as Hiedunspeigung in 1113. The name is derived from a nearby loop of the March, Bend des Jedung . The place originally belonged to Melk Abbey , later it came to the Formbachers and then to the Babenbergs . In 1179 a parish in Jedenspeigen is mentioned.
- The Battle of Dürnkrut and Jedenspeigen on August 26, 1278 between the Bohemian King Přemysl Ottokar II and the Habsburg Rudolf I is considered the second largest knight battle in history after the Battle of Hastings. It ended with the victory of the Habsburgs, Ottokar II was slain while trying to escape.
In 1295 a Hadmar von Jedenspeigen from the Idunspeugen family was named as the owner of the castle and the manor. The knights of Jedenspeigen expanded their manorial rule over the next few centuries. In 1440 they besieged the city of Zistersdorf , as a result, their castle was occupied by the troops of the later Emperor Friedrich III. destroyed, the rule was handed over to Christoph von Liechtenstein. In 1442 the mercenary leader Wencko von Ruckenau occupied the place. In 1513, Emperor Maximilian Jedenspeigen granted market rights. From the beginning of the 16th century until 1524, the Jedenspeigen Castle ( Gänserndorf , Lower Austria ) changed from the Jedenspeigener to the Steinpeisser . From 1524 the Lamberg ruled. In 1578 Conrad von Pappenheim bought Jedenspeigen and in 1583 sold it to Georg Seyfried von Kollonitsch . His family stayed in the village until the 19th century.
The Kollonitsch family, originally from Croatia, expanded Jedenspeigen into a mansion and had a Renaissance-style castle built on the remains of the old castle. The entrance portal still shows the coats of arms of Georg Seyfried von Kollonitsch and his wife Helena, Countess Fuchs. The two also had a family crypt laid out under the church of St. Martin, which was occupied as a burial place for the Kollonitsch until 1742. After the male line of Kollonitsch died out, Jedenspeigen Castle and Lordship went to Ladislaus Freiherr von Zay von Csömör , who was adopted by his uncle Cardinal Siegmund Graf von Kollonitz with the condition that he took the name Kollonitsch. In 1874 the last of the family, Count Max Kollonitsch, inherited the castle and the manor to the Archdiocese of Vienna .
In 1910 Jedenspeigen received a station on the northern railway . At the end of the Second World War, Jedenspeigen was one of the most destroyed places in the Gänserndorf district after the hardest fighting on the March. In 1978, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the battle on Marchfeld, Jedenspeigen Castle was partially renovated and the venue for a large exhibition on the subject of Rudolf and Ottokar.
