Prottes is on the border between Marchfeld and Weinviertel in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the market town covers 13.7 square kilometers. 7.52 percent of the area is forested.

  • Catholic parish church Prottes Mariä Himmelfahrt: Romanesque nave from the 13th century with Gothic choir and Baroque reorientation from 1740
  • Petroleum nature trail: In Prottes there is a petroleum nature trail open-air museum. The crude oil nature trail begins at the main square and runs along Josef-Seitz-Strasse, where original equipment that is used for exploring, extracting and processing crude oil and natural gas is exhibited. The educational trail is 4.5 km long and there are more than 150 exhibits on display.

There is a kindergarten and a primary school in the market town. The kindergarten is attended by all children from the age of three up to the start of compulsory schooling.
