Prottes is a market town with 1,457 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria ( Austria ).
geography
Prottes is on the border between Marchfeld and Weinviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the market town covers 13.7 square kilometers. 7.52 percent of the area is forested.

Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1280 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 1221 inhabitants, in 1981 1156 and in 1971 1191 inhabitants.

Culture and sights
- Catholic parish church Prottes Mariä Himmelfahrt: Romanesque nave from the 13th century with Gothic choir and Baroque reorientation from 1740
- Petroleum nature trail: In Prottes there is a petroleum nature trail open-air museum. The crude oil nature trail begins at the main square and runs along Josef-Seitz-Strasse, where original equipment that is used for exploring, extracting and processing crude oil and natural gas is exhibited. The educational trail is 4.5 km long and there are more than 150 exhibits on display.
economy
There were 42 non-agricultural workplaces in 2001, and agricultural and forestry businesses according to the 1999 survey 35. The number of people in work at home was 581 according to the 2001 census. In 2001, the activity rate was 45.93 percent.
education
There is a kindergarten and a primary school in the market town. The kindergarten is attended by all children from the age of three up to the start of compulsory schooling. Since only a few children (around 50 in the 2006/07 school year) are taught in elementary school, different age groups are taught together in some subjects.

- The soccer club "SC OMV Prottes" plays in the regional league north / northwest.
