Baldwin Groller
Balduin Groller , pseudonym for Adalbert Goldscheider , (born September 5, 1848 in Arad , Austrian Empire , † March 22, 1916 in Vienna ) was an Austrian journalist , writer and sports official .
Life
Adalbert Goldscheider spent his childhood in Arad and Dresden and studied at the University of Vienna a . a. Philosophy and Law. During his studies he made his debut with smaller articles in the feature pages of various newspapers . In 1880 he Magyarized his name to Gál Béla.
At 22, Groller became a Freemason in the Hungarian Széchenyi Lodge in Arad . And at the age of 23 he founded the Allgemeine Kunstzeitung in Vienna in 1871 , with which he went bankrupt after a short time. He later edited the German writer newspaper , the Neue Illustrierte Zeitung and the Neue Wiener Journal and worked as a columnist.
Groller worked for several years as a freelancer for the magazines Die Gartenlaube and Über Land und Meer . Groller headed the journalists and writers' association Concordia for a number of years as Vice President and as such he also advanced to become a member of the Art Commission of the Austrian Ministry of Culture.
On February 6, 1906, the General Sports Committee for Austria was founded and the Executive Committee appointed Vice President alongside President Viktor Silberer and Secretary Siegfried Hochermann Groller. This association is now considered the forerunner of the Austrian Olympic Committee .
On March 16, 1908, the Central Association for Common Sports Interests was founded in Vienna and Groller was elected its first president. This was supported by the Vice Presidents Alexander Hornaczek and Gustav Magg .
He was friends with the writer Bertha von Suttner , about which she reports in her memoir.
reception
As a writer or columnist, Balduin Groller is almost forgotten today. Only his Dagobert Trostler is noteworthy, as he succeeded in creating an Austrian version of Sherlock Holmes .
