Hans Heinz Hahnl

Hans Heinz Hahnl (born March 29, 1923 in Oberndorf , Lower Austria , † February 18, 2006 in Vienna ) was an Austrian journalist and writer.

Life

After attending school in Krems and Vienna and graduating from high school, Hahnl studied German language and literature and theater studies at the University of Vienna from 1945, where he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate.

Hans Heinz Hahnl worked as a journalist for the Wiener Arbeiter-Zeitung from 1947 to 1988 , initially as a court reporter, later as the editor in charge of the cultural department for many years.

Hahnl wrote radio plays for ORF , worked as a theater critic for Die Bühne and wrote literary-critical articles for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the Kölner Stadtanzeiger . At the beginning of his career he also published lyric poems in the periodical Plan (editor Otto Basil ).

In 1952 his first volume of short stories was published, The Forbidden Doors . Hahnl emerged as a novelist from 1978.

Hahnl was a member of the Austrian PEN Club and the Austrian Writers' Association .

He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .

The Romania-German writer Adrian Loew succeeded his 1981 during the Ceausescu published -time poems "siding" on the censorship by the following quote Hahnls prefix to his poetry collection "constantly called upon to express myself socially, to recognize my social position and my misunderstanding with to surrender to the times, I withdraw into the snail shell of private non-commitment "- which could be understood as a clear rejection of the ruling regime.
