from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The literature archive of the Austrian National Library is a special archive with a focus on Austrian literature of the 20th century. It is one of the eight collections of the Austrian National Library and is located in the Michaeler tract of the Hofburg in Vienna .

history

The literary archive of the Austrian National Library was founded in 1989 as a special collection of the Austrian National Library. Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler was appointed head of the literature archive in 1996. After Schmidt-Dengler's unexpected death, Bernhard Fetz became director of the literature archive.
In 2010 the official name was changed from the Austrian Literature Archive to the Literature Archive of the Austrian National Library .

Archive job

The archive collects literary legacies and legacies of Austrian authors of the 20th century, especially since 1945, archives of literary publishers and literary magazines and makes them available for scientific analysis.

In its service it also offers a portal to “Literary magazines in Austria 1945–1990” and, in cooperation with numerous partner institutions, a “Directory of artistic, scientific and cultural-political legacies in Austria”. The archive, which is gradually incorporating its materials into the “Austrian Union Catalog for Legacies, Autographs and Manuscripts”, is also characterized by a lively research, publication, event and exhibition activity (for example, since 2005, through the Vienna edition of all works and letters Ödön von Horváths under the direction of Klaus Kastberger ). It is also actively connected to the estate processing commission of the “Association of Austrian Librarians” and a key partner of “ KOOP-LITERA international ”.
