The Austrian writer / inward bound , formerly Austrian Writers 'Association (English: Austrian Writers' Association abbreviated OeSV or Austrians or AWA ) is an Austrian professional association for writers. The association was founded in 1945 and was one of the first Austrian professional associations after the end of the Second World War .

History and goals

The founding of the association was initiated on June 11, 1945 by Oskar Maurus Fontana as chairman of a proponent committee in the Vienna City Hall . On September 17, 1945, the constituent assembly of the Association of Democratic Writers and Journalists took place. In 1946 there were 873 members. In the first post-war years, one of the main tasks of the association was to obtain paper for the authors. The first chairman was the literary historian Edwin Rollett , who remained in this position until 1951. From 1954 the association was called the Austrian Writers' Association .

The association is concerned with meeting authors and exchanging ideas with the public. Double memberships with other literary associations, such as PEN and the Graz Author Assembly , are possible. The association has its seat in Vienna . Alfred Warnes held the chair for a few years , from 2009 to 2017 Sidonia Gall , and in 2017 the chair was taken over by Marianne Gruber .
