Edwin Rollett

Edwin Rollett (born January 24, 1889 in Graz , † December 7, 1964 in Vienna ) was an Austrian narrator, critic and publicist.

Edwin Rollett, son of the physiologist Alexander Rollett (1834–1903), who taught at the University of Graz from 1863 , studied German and classical philology at the universities of Graz and Prague from 1908 . After graduating as Dr. phil. In 1912 he received an editorial post at the Österreichische Rundschau in 1913 . In 1915 he was drafted into military service, came to the Isonzo Front and in 1916 was taken prisoner by the Russians . In 1921 he returned to Vienna, got a job at the Wiener Zeitung and expanded the cultural and theater section of the newspaper. He was also a correspondent for various Croatian newspapers and from 1928 to 1933 for the Münchner Zeitung . In 1938 he was appointed director of the Wiener Kleine Volks-Zeitung . Under the National Socialists he was sent to the Dachau and Flossenbürg concentration camps from 1938 to 1940 .

After the war he became head of the Ullstein publishing house in Vienna . Rollett was also editor of the New Austrian Biography from 1935 (Volume 8) and the series Ewiges Wort from 1946. From 1945 to 1951 he was also chairman of the Austrian Writers' Association .

His honorary grave is on the Grinzinger Friedhof (group 19, number 16) in Vienna.
