Career
On December 30, 1983, Piazzini competed in his first ski jumping World Cup . In the opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament 1983/84 he reached 17th place in Oberstdorf and thus just missed the points. Only in the first World Cup competition after the tour on January 11, 1984 was he able to win his first World Cup point with 15th place in Cortina d'Ampezzo . He also jumped into the points again in Sapporo , Japan .
At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , Piazzini reached 53rd place on the normal hill and 40th place on the large hill. In his only World Cup competition after the Olympic Games, he achieved 7th place in Planica, the best individual result in the World Cup.
The 1984/85 World Cup season began with a 13th place in Lake Placid . However, he then successfully completed the Four Hills Tournament 1984/85 and then took a break from competition. It was not until December 21, 1986 that he jumped another World Cup competition and reached 8th place in Chamonix , thus again winning World Cup points. However, the Four Hills Tournament 1986/87 was just as unsuccessful as the 1984/85 tour. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1987 in Oberstdorf , he jumped 45th on the normal hill and 23rd on the large hill. After the World Championship he was able to improve his performance significantly and achieved World Cup points in all three World Cup competitions in Falun , Planica and Oslo . At the end of the season he finished 34th in the overall World Cup ranking.
In 1988, Piazzini was again in the squad for the Winter Olympics in Calgary . On the normal hill he jumped to 17th and on the large hill to 43rd place. In the team competition he made it to 7th place together with Gérard Balanche , Christoph Lehmann and Christian Hauswirth . In his only World Cup competition after the games, he was able to collect 12th World Cup points again in Meldal .
For the 1988/89 season Piazzini jumped only one World Cup as part of the Four Hills Tournament 1988/89 and reached 70th place in Innsbruck. He then ended his active ski jumping career.
