Career

Balanche made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup on December 30, 1984 . His first jumping in the Four Hills Tournament 1984/85 was unsuccessful. In March 1985 he had his breakthrough in the World Cup. In Swedish Falun he reached 13th place first World Cup points. Two days later he jumped on the podium for the first time and for the last time in Oslo . The following seasons were changeable. In the jumps for the Four Hills Tournament he mostly got stuck in mediocre places. In the other World Cup competitions he mostly achieved World Cup points. His most successful season, 1986/87 , he finished in 27th place in the overall World Cup standings.

At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , Balanche jumped from the normal hill to 37th and from the large hill to 30th place. In team jumping he reached 8th place together with Christoph Lehmann , Fabrice Piazzini and Christian Hauswirth . In the first World Cup after the games in Lahti , Balanche was able to win World Cup points again with 13th place.

The Four Hills Tournament in 1988/89 was unsuccessful for Balanche. Even at the following Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 , where he jumped from the normal hill to 34th and from the large hill to 49th place, it was rather unsuccessful. After the World Cup, Balanche ended his active ski jumping career.
