Palais Pálffy (Josefsplatz)
The Palais Pálffy on Josefsplatz is a palace in Vienna's 1st district, Inner City . In addition to the Palais Pálffy on Josefsplatz, the Pálffy family in Vienna also owned the Palais Pálffy on Wallnerstrasse .
Today the house is the seat of the Austrian Cultural Center (ÖKZ. Austria House ).
history
The prince's chancellery was located on the site of the palace as early as the 14th century. At the beginning of the 16th century, the property finally became the property of Count Maithenburg and later that of the Kinsky family . However, the Kinsky Palace was replaced or rebuilt by the next owner, Rudolf von Khuen von Belasy , Baron von Lambach, with a new palace in the Renaissance style. This palace was expanded over time through acquisitions. The daughter of Rudolf von Khuen von Belasy finally married Count Paul Pálffy and in 1684 brought the palace into the possession of the Pálffy princely family .
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart performed with his sister in the palace in 1762 at the age of six.
After the end of the First World War , the Palais Pálffy on Josefsplatz became state property. In 1944 the property was badly damaged by an air raid , but was rebuilt in the post-war years . Although the facade of the palace was reconstructed, the interior was largely redesigned.
During the occupation after the Second World War, the Palais Palffy - Austria House , a forum for international understanding and cultural exchange initiated by the Austrian-American and Austrian-Soviet societies , was here . This is where other friendship societies emerged , as well as today's umbrella organization for all Austrian-foreign societies - PaN (partner of all nations). The PaN (at that time still VÖAG) moved to the Austrian Trade Association in the 1980s .
The Austrian-Kulturzentrum-Österreich-Haus association , founded in 1969, remained here , whose task is to "promote all measures that increase Austria's reputation in the art and cultural life of our homeland in Europe and around the world". Today the Palais Pálffy on Josefsplatz is mainly used for cultural events and exhibitions .
Since 2013, the palace has also been the seat of the artists' association Les Montmartrois en Europe .
