International understanding
Under international understanding and cultural exchange is meant a profound communication between different populations, cultures or other comparable large groups at all levels.
Basics
The aim is to break down prejudices and boundaries between the different groups through communication, encounters and intercultural learning and to enable cultural (and also scientific) exchange. This goal is pursued by private individuals, associations ( UEA ) or state and international institutions ( UNESCO ).
International understanding is also seen as a solution to long-term conflicts between different ethnic groups or religious groups, for example in the Bosnia-Herzegovina conflict or in various African conflicts. In such regions, it is hoped that the reduction of the conflict potential will have a stabilizing effect that will enable the different groups to live together peacefully in the long term. Projects promoting international understanding are mostly funded and supported from abroad.
Organizations and institutions that often try to prevent peaceful coexistence by violent means are understood as being directed against international understanding. These include above all right-wing populist and xenophobic groups and parties as well as organizations classified as terrorist.
National
In Germany , the promotion of the idea of international understanding is a recognized charitable purpose ( Section 52 (2) sentence 1 no. 13 AO ), which is also of tax importance.
