Kulturausch - magazine for international perspectives (spelling: KULTURAUSTAUSCH) is a quarterly magazine published by the Institute for Foreign Relations (ifa). It is published by ConBrio Verlag and is financially supported by the Foreign Office , but its content is independent. The magazine reaches readers in 146 countries.
Content
Cultural exchange deals with international cultural and social issues. One of the main topics of each issue focuses on the growing importance of cultural processes in the globalized world. This covers around two thirds of the volume and contains texts by guest authors with different cultural and professional backgrounds. The focus is on cross-border phenomena (climate change, growth, flight), cultural practices in different countries (work, intoxication, consumption) or individual states and regions of the world (Turkey, France, Russia, Iran).
Usually these topics are discussed in essays and interviews . Numerous international intellectuals, writers and scholars have written for cultural exchanges , including Ai Weiwei , Shumona Sinha , Charles Taylor , Naomie Klein , Pankaj Mishra , Laurie Penny , Tim Parks , Adania Shibli , Laksmi Pamuntjak , Erri De Luca and Vandana Shiva . Edward Burtynsky , Hossein Fatemi and Lord Snowdon provided the illustration of the content .
The magazine part of the issue also deals with topics such as foreign cultural policy , development cooperation , national stereotypes and other topics of cultural exchange. It also contains reports , reviews and other forms of text.
Editorial board
When selecting the main topics, the editorial team is advised by an advisory board from politics, science, media and culture. The current members of the editorial board (2018) are the writer Aris Fioretos , the publisher Theo Geißler , Martina Hackelberg from the Foreign Office, the journalist Evelyn Roll , the migration researcher Naika Foroutan , the cultural scientist Claudia Schmölders and the Secretary General of the Goethe Institute Johannes Ebert .
Awards
Art director Heike Reinsch was honored with the red dot design award in the communication design category for her layout design of the edition What remains of the war (I / 2007) .
