Laksmi Pamuntjak (born December 24, 1971 in Jakarta ) is an Indonesian writer .

Life

Laksmi Pamuntjak grew up in a middle-class Indonesian family, her father was an architect and her mother had studied pharmacy , both had studied in Europe. Pamuntjak received a piano training and represented Indonesia in international piano competitions. At the age of eleven she received her first literary prize. She studied in Australia.

Today she works in the bilingual bookstore "Aksara" in Jakarta , which she co-founded, and in the editorial team of the weekly newspaper "Tempo".

Her novel Amba deals with the pogroms against the left and the Chinese under President Suharto in 1965. The novel met with great interest and was reprinted and translated several times, in 2015 also into German.
