Eliza Hansen

Eliza Hansen (born May 31, 1909 in Bucharest , † May 19, 2001 in Hamburg ) was a German piano teacher , pianist and harpsichordist of Romanian German descent.

Life

Eliza Hansen began her training as a pianist at the Bucharest University of Music at the age of twelve, where she passed her concert exam at the age of 19 . Two years later she went to Berlin , where she was a student of Artur Schnabel and Edwin Fischer .

As a pianist and harpsichordist, she has performed in major centers such as London , Barcelona , Madrid and Paris . She has played with leading orchestras and conductors and has appeared with renowned instrumentalists including George Malcolm , David Geringas , Josef Suk and Henryk Szeryng . There are also several recordings of her.

Hansen was a member of the Hamburg University of Music and Drama from 1959 to 1984 and was professor of a piano and harpsichord class. Her students included Christoph Eschenbach , Justus Frantz , Manfred Fock , Hartmut Leistritz , Marianne Schroeder , Vera Schwarz and Johanna Wiedenbach .

Eliza Hansen was married to the pianist Conrad Hansen .

On her 85th birthday, the Hamburg Senate awarded her the Biermann-Ratjen Medal in honor of her services to the cultural life of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
