Biermann Ratjen Medal

The (Senator) - Biermann-Ratjen-Medal was donated in 1978 by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in memory of the merits of the former Senator for Culture, Hans-Harder Biermann-Ratjen . Since then, it has been used to honor people and groups of people who have made outstanding contributions to Hamburg through artistic or other cultural achievements. The medal can also be awarded to institutions that bring out the cultural image or character of the city in a special way. The president of the cultural authority decides on the award . He presents the medal on behalf of the Senate . It is not associated with monetary donations, but serves purely for recognition.
