Albert Feser (born October 24, 1901 in Öjendorf ; † January 20, 1993 in Hamburg-Othmarschen ) was a German impressionist painter and art teacher . He was a representative of open air painting . His father Hugo Feser (1873-1958) was a printer and typesetter and from 1919 a member of the SPD in the Hamburg parliament .

education and profession

In early 1918, Feser joined the Bahrenfeld Freikorps . From 1919 to 1924 he attended the Hamburg teacher training college. From 1921 he took evening courses on landscape painting with Arthur Siebelist . In 1923 and 1924 he studied art history with Erwin Panofsky and Fritz Saxl at the University of Hamburg . He was also a student of Henning Edens .

In 1924, Feser signed on with HAPAG and took the Saarland combi ship to China and Japan. The following year he began teaching for 14 years as a primary school teacher at the Griesstrasse school . At the same time, he led painting courses at the Institute for Teacher Training for two years. In 1930 he received a one-year scholarship at the Hamburg School of Applied Arts with Julius Wohlers .

In 1932 he fell ill with tuberculosis , which accompanied him until 1944.

From 1937 he regularly took part in exhibitions with his works. In 1949 Feser joined forces with the painters Fritz Düsing , Adolf Wriggers , Ilse Tesdorpf-Edens and Felix Walner to form the “ Little Hamburg Artists' Ring ”.

In 1952 Feser became an art teacher in the Ernst Schlee High School . There he ended his teaching activity in 1963 when he retired. In the 1960s he gave painting courses at the Hamburg Adult Education Center and undertook study trips across Europe. On January 20, 1993 he died on the day of the opening of his large retrospective with 112 pictures. It took place at the Hamburgische Landesbank , was curated by Axel Feuss and organized by the Altonaer Museum .

Oeuvre

Feser's complete oeuvre consists mainly of landscape motifs, cityscapes and travel pictures that he painted on the many study trips. He also painted still lifes and portraits. His main painting technique was oil painting , occasionally watercolor and drawings. In the firestorm end of July 1943 Fesers was destroyed entire early work.

His works are represented in the Hamburger Kunsthalle , the Altonaer Museum, the Hamburg cultural authority and the art associations in Hamburg and Düsseldorf . Some works also hang in the Hotel Jacob in Nienstedten .

Memberships

Feser was a member of the Hamburg Artists' Association from 1832 and of the Federal Association of Visual Artists . He was also a founding member of the Kleiner Hamburger Künstlerring.

family

Feser married Elise Weber (1904–1989) in 1927. He had four children with her: Bernt (* 1928), Ellen (1935–2019), Helge (1940–1941) and Inga-Cornelia (* 1942).
